Who is the programme for?

The one month (4-weeks) Intensive English Certificate Course is an intensive course designed principally for students who wish to improve English relevant to the hospitality and tourism industry. The four weeks integrates a comprehensive language syllabus leading to the IMI Intensive English Certificate with an emphasis on more advanced English language skills, within hospitality related themes. It also provides excellent preparation for any of the major European examinations in English for Tourism including the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry English for the Tourist Industry exams.


Requirements for Admission

  • 17 years of age
  • High school certificate or equivalent
  • English proficiency: 425 TOEFL (paper-based), 113 TOEFL (computer-based), 3.5 IELTS, or equivalent

Programme objective:
The programme’s objective is to develop the English competencies of students to 437 TOEFL (paper-based), 123 TOEFL (computer-based), 4 IELTS, or equivalent level within a broad hospitality and tourism context.  This means students will start at the Independent User lever and finish the course at a Proficient User level. Students will study relevant grammar, vocabulary development, pronunciation and speaking practice, in addition to learning strategies and study techniques. Finally, professional excursions and guest speakers will increase students’ knowledge of Swiss hotellerie and tourism.

Small groups ensure individual attention and the opportunity to secure a recognized test score.

One afternoon excursion per week will allow students to become familiar with the Swiss way of life.
