Who is the programme for? The 3 month (12-week) University English Preparatory Course is an intensive course designed principally for students who wish to improve their English skills in preparation for undergraduate or postgraduate study leading to hospitality and tourism qualifications. The programme is in two parts: the first 8 weeks focuses on generic English skills which are professionally relevant and hospitality related yet not overly technical or specialized in nature. The last four weeks integrates a comprehensive language syllabus of the IMI Intensive English Certificate with an emphasis on more advanced English language skills, again within hospitality related themes.
Programme objective and content: The programme’s objective is to develop the English competencies of students to 425 TOEFL (paper-based), 113 TOEFL (computer-based), 3.5 IELTS, or equivalent level within a broad hospitality and tourism context. This means students will start at the Basic User lever and finish the course at an Independent User level. Students will study relevant grammar, vocabulary development, pronunciation and speaking practice, in addition to learning strategies and study techniques. Finally, professional excursions and guest speakers will increase students’ knowledge of Swiss hotellerie and tourism. For further details please contact the IMI Marketing Department.
For details on costs, please download the IMI Programme Catalogue and refer to pages 22 - 23. Entry Dates: There are two intakes per year, late in October and early May.
