"They are the toughest audience because they ask the simplest questions. Questions untainted by the group-think mentality instilled in them by years of 'management speak', and lack any inhibition in thinking their question is naive and therefore unwarranted. The learning paths in IMI are definitely a 'three-way street': lecturer to student, student to student and also, student to lecturer. The diverse cultural mix at IMI provides the students, and me, with a constant reminder that, 'you shouldn't believe everything you think'! Our increasingly globalised world increasingly impacts on what is perceived as 'correct'. Thus, as a so-called expert, there is no greater challenge than having the validity of all you have taken for granted confronted with the simple question 'but why?' by someone who rightly claims equal validity though does not share your educational or cultural context. I am a great believer that maturity is a product of your acceptance to have your opinions and beliefs questioned, your ability to justify them in the face of those questions, and your assuredness to admit when you are, perhaps, wrong. As such, every time I present at IMI, I can confirm it is not only the students who mature a little more."
