"At the moment of making decision to select a good school/institute for our son to make his further study abroad, we considered two criteria: academic strength and safety. Apart from the expectation to have our son be cultivated in an efficient way, we need to be ensured that he will be, physically and spiritually, taken care of."

IMI's Feel Good Coach with student Julia. |
Extract from the Manchester Metropolitan University IMI Programme Review Report of 2008: The Programme Panel felt that students were very ready to bring forward any concerns they might have. Students can do this via the Student Council through elected representatives, via questionnaires or the staff open-office-door policy. Regular informal meetings are held with student representatives and advice on how to fulfil their role is given.
IMI your second home
IMI cares - IMI University Centre is not only a place where students study, but for perhaps a short but very important time of their life, is their home. IMI is very much aware of the fact that for many of our students this is the very first time that they leave home and their families to dive into a totally new and often hard to understand new culture and environment. Different languages, different climatic conditions, different food and a melting pot of different opinions can make it a tough time especially in their first week. IMI reserves much energy and time to ensure that specifically the first week our students are well taken care of and can start to feel-good and make friends before we expect academic performances.
It already starts with ...
Airport Pick Up for all new students When they arrive in Switzerland, our IMI driver will collect them from Zurich airport or Luzern train station. During their one hour ride to the campus they will be informed through a pre-arranged pod cast (audio presentation) about what to expect and some of the important and fun facts about the school.
When arriving on campus ...
Welcome and Induction Week at IMI After their arrival on campus, students are welcomed by our specially assigned IMI staff who assist with the room check in. Within the first days IMI organizes different activities; a treasure hunt to experience the campus, a tour to the nearby town of Luzern and a whole day on Swissness with edutaining presentation about Switzerland (online), Swiss culinary delights and often some Swiss surprise guests. During the first week our student are also advised on how to make international phone calls, how to connect their computers to the campus WIFI internet and getting used to everyday things like such as public- transportation, opening a mobile phone contract and getting to know the most important facilities like pharmacies, post offices, food delivery or just local shopping possibilities.

During induction as well as throughout the whole semester, parents and family members are always welcome to visit IMI and join their beloved for lunch or dinner.
To ensure that our students do NOT miss out on anything digital, IMI has created a OneEntryPage for current students - MyIMI with email information, timetable, ALI alumni online db and even bus schedules up to the minute

Luzern is Switzerlands safest city
Luzern has recently been voted Switzerland's safest city. For our students this means that they can concentrate 100% on their studies. On campus we do not need any security or webcams BUT of course a Supervisor is on campus 24/7 and can be reached at any time. Of course the campus is equipped with all safety equipment and we train our students in the induction week for unexpected scenarios like fire or accident. All our students are fully insured under the Swiss health system and have their insurance cards giving them access to any hospital or clinic.
Personal Development Programme as part of the Curriculum - our students experience so much more than just technical skills
IMI has a track record of spearheading innovaive and challenging projects to equip our students for a changing and modern world.
In today's ever changing, virtual, digital, internetworked, immediate and global economy our Alumni will be exposed to various management symptoms like, stress, time pressure, information overload, cultural misunderstandings, professionalism at all time
To prepare our students for this, IMI was the first Hotel School that implemented Personal Development Program (PDP) into its curriculum.
- PDP aims to assist students academically and personally
- PDP encourages students to improve and develop in all aspects of their studies and career.
- PDP supports students with study skills as well as preparing them for a rewarding career.
The latter is particularly focused on ‘employability skills' such as problem solving, creativity, team work and communication all of which are essential for employers from graduating students
